If you are a beginner, knowing where to start can be daunting. Here’s a great tip: Go to the library and find the subject you are researching in the children’s non-fiction section of the library. Grab all the books that cover your subject and read through them, making notes. Because they are written for true beginners (kids), they focus on the basics. These basics give you a map for delving deeper. Now head to the Young Adult section and look for books on the basics. They’ll take you deeper. This technique works great for Internet research too.
With this technique, you get a grounding in the most important elements of a new skill or knowledge-base without wading through complex expert information that assumes knowledge on your part.
